Amazon seasonal jobs Los Angeles

Amazon is expanding its holiday workforce across California, offering seasonal positions averaging $20 an hour and the possibility of permanent employment.

For Los Angeles residents looking for extra income, the holiday season could bring an opportunity to earn another paycheck. Amazon plans to hire more than 2,900 workers in the area, with seasonal wages averaging $20 an hour.

The openings are part of a larger hiring effort that includes more than 34,000 positions across California, according to the company’s 2026 holiday hiring announcement.

The jobs arrive as families prepare for an expensive time of year. Groceries, rent, utilities, and holiday celebrations can stretch household budgets, particularly for workers already struggling to make ends meet.

And while seasonal hiring has slowed across the broader labor market, Amazon’s announcement offers another option for people seeking temporary work.

But how much could someone actually earn, and could a holiday job turn into something more permanent?

How Much Could Workers Earn at $20 an Hour?

Amazon says its seasonal employees will earn an average of $20 per hour. Actual wages may vary depending on the position and location.

For someone working 20 hours a week, that average wage would mean approximately $400 before taxes. A 30-hour schedule could bring in $600, while working 40 hours would generate $800 in gross weekly earnings.

Over eight weeks, the potential earnings would look like this:

  • 20 hours per week: $3,200
  • 30 hours per week: $4,800
  • 40 hours per week: $6,400

These calculations assume a consistent schedule at $20 an hour. They are examples, not guaranteed earnings. Actual hours may vary, and taxes and other deductions will reduce take-home pay.

For some households, even a few additional shifts could help cover groceries, pay down credit card balances, or make the holidays less financially stressful.

The positions may appeal to students, parents looking for supplemental income, and people between jobs who need temporary work while searching for something more stable.

Before accepting a position, applicants should ask about expected hours, shift schedules, transportation costs, and employment conditions. Understanding California workers’ rights and workplace protections can also help them evaluate an offer.

Where to Find Amazon’s Holiday Jobs

Amazon’s seasonal hiring includes work in fulfillment centers and transportation operations, where employees help process orders, prepare packages, and move merchandise through the company’s delivery network.

The company says it will post new openings weekly through December, meaning the more than 2,900 planned Los Angeles positions may not all be available at once.

Applicants can search for opportunities through Amazon’s official local jobs website, where they can review available positions and sign up for job alerts.

Amazon also provides hiring notifications by text. Interested applicants can text NEWJOB to 31432 to receive information about openings.

Location matters, too. A warehouse position described as being in the Los Angeles area could require a lengthy commute, especially for someone relying on public transportation.

Before applying, workers should consider whether the schedule and travel time make financial sense. A higher paycheck may be less helpful if transportation costs consume a significant portion of the additional earnings.

Could a Seasonal Job Become Permanent?

For some workers, the holiday season could open the door to longer-term employment.

Amazon says seasonal employees may be considered for regular positions after the busy shopping period ends. However, a temporary job does not guarantee permanent employment.

Workers interested in staying should ask about the expected end date of their assignment, opportunities to move into regular positions, and what qualifications the company considers when making those decisions.

Benefits are another consideration.

Amazon says that beginning January 1, 2027, eligible seasonal employees working at least 30 hours per week will have access to healthcare coverage. Other benefits, including retirement savings and educational assistance, depend on the position and employment eligibility.

For someone entering the workforce or considering a career change, a seasonal job can also provide experience in warehouse operations, logistics, and customer fulfillment.

Still, the immediate benefit for many applicants may be simpler: a chance to earn additional income when household expenses are rising.

Temporary employment will not solve the financial pressures facing Los Angeles families. Rent, groceries, transportation, and debt can quickly absorb an extra paycheck.

But for workers who find a suitable position, a few weeks of steady earnings could provide some breathing room during the holidays—and perhaps an opportunity to build toward something more lasting.
