Bad Bunny surprised everyone on the 2026 Met Gala red carpet by appearing as an “aged” version of himself, taking his creativity and audacity to a whole new level.
The Puerto Rican singer opted for a radical transformation for one of the most anticipated events on the international fashion and art calendar.
On the night of May 4th, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art once again became the global epicenter of creativity. Under the theme “Fashion Is Art,” the gala brought together prominent figures from the worlds of music, film, design, and sports.
It was Bad Bunny’s appearance—featuring hyper-realistic prosthetics designed to simulate wrinkles, sagging skin, and sun spots—that stole the spotlight and sparked the most conversation.
Bad Bunny’s choice was not merely intended to create visual impact; it also engaged directly with the central theme of this year’s Costume Institute exhibition: the diversity of body types, and, in particular, the aging body.
The exhibition catalog itself notes: “Perhaps reflecting our fear of confronting our own mortality, the youth-centric fashion industry has traditionally ignored the aging body.” With his appearance, the artist brought to the forefront a necessary conversation regarding the representation of old age within the fashion world.
In an interview during the gala, he remarked: “It’s part of my life; I always try to do something different. And this Met Gala day is the perfect occasion to explore, be creative, and express who you are in a unique way. So that is exactly what I’m doing tonight—and I’m happy to be here with you, and with all of us who are here. I’ve aged myself by exactly 53 years. So it took a little while, but it was worth it. I hope it looks good.”
