Welcome Back Paisano program

The Welcome Back Paisano program connects repatriated Mexicans with jobs, training, and long-term support, reshaping economic reintegration in Mexico.

In a landscape where return migration is beginning to impact Mexico’s labor market, Tecate launches “Welcome Back, Paisano”—a platform focused on the economic reintegration of repatriated Mexicans through employment, training, and support.

According to official figures, in 2025, more than 160,000 Mexicans returned to the country from the United States, many of whom faced barriers to reintegrating into the labor market. Against this backdrop, the brand has crafted an initiative that aligns social purpose with its commercial ecosystem, in partnership with FUNDES, Tiendas SIX, and HEINEKEN Mexico.

The program proposes a comprehensive employability model that combines technical training, access to job opportunities, and ongoing support for a period of up to 24 months. In its initial phase, the initiative aims to incorporate over 100 repatriated Mexicans into the Tiendas SIX network, with projected growth as operations expand.

Far from being a one-off initiative, this movement is part of a growing trend in which brands are beginning to take a more active role in addressing structural societal issues, integrating social impact directly into their business operations. In this specific instance, the point of connection is clear: proximity retail serving as a platform for both employment and entrepreneurship.

“‘Welcome Back, Paisano’ is an initiative that reflects the character and courage of Tecate: being present when we are needed most and backing the Mexican people with concrete actions. We seek to generate a real impact within communities by strengthening local economies and creating opportunities that enable the world’s most resilient workforce to build a new beginning,” commented Marta García, Vice President of Marketing at HEINEKEN Mexico.

Furthermore, the model incorporates the opening of new stores as a means to scale the program, thereby expanding opportunities for both employment and self-employment across various regions of the country. Operationally, the initiative relies on the methodology developed by FUNDES—an organization with over 40 years of experience in the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and in providing support to populations in situations of migration.

“Supporting people in situations of mobility to achieve successful economic reintegration in Mexico not only generates individual opportunities for employability and entrepreneurship, but also boosts the economy and strengthens entire communities. Being part of ‘Welcome Back, Paisano’ allows us to contribute to helping more people rebuild their paths with stability and confidence,” commented Florencia Colunga, Growth and Partnerships Manager at FUNDES Mexico.

“Welcome Back, Paisano” also aligns with HEINEKEN Mexico’s “Brewing a Better World” sustainability strategy—particularly its social impact pillar—which focuses on generating inclusive economic opportunities and strengthening the social fabric of communities.
