The United States has raised the reward to $25 million for information leading to the location, arrest, or prosecution of Juan Carlos Valencia González, alias “Pelón” or “El 03,” identified by U.S. authorities as the new leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) following the death of his stepfather and the organization’s founder, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho.”
The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs announced Wednesday rewards totaling up to $102 million for eight members and operatives of the CJNG, as part of the Narcotics Rewards Program (NRP) and the Transnational Organized Crime Rewards Program (TOCRP).
The amount offered for Valencia González represents a $5 million increase over the previous reward. The U.S. government said the new offer seeks to obtain information that will allow it to “dismantle the leadership” of the criminal group, which Washington continues to list as one of the most dangerous narco-terrorist organizations in the hemisphere.
