Merchants in Tijuana expect that Mother’s Day—to be celebrated this coming Sunday, May 10—will generate an increase of up to 45 percent in sales compared to a typical day, projected Julián Palombo Saucedo, a national councilor for the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services, and Tourism of Mexico (Concanaco).

Tijuana continues to solidify its position as an attractive destination for residents of Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona in the United States—individuals who traditionally cross the border to gather and celebrate with their families, noted Julián Palombo.

According to his estimates, the business sectors expected to see the highest volume of activity include florists, jewelry stores, department stores, restaurants, coffee shops, markets, beauty salons, bakeries, and convenience stores, among other businesses.

In a press release issued on May 3, 2026, the former president of Canaco-Servytur Tijuana affirmed that this border city boasts a wide array of dining, shopping, and entertainment options for celebrating special occasions.

The surge in consumer spending during these celebrations directly benefits thousands of families who rely on the region’s commercial and service sectors, thereby strengthening the local economy and employment across various productive industries.

Consequently, he urged the public to “buy local” and support Tijuana’s businesses by prioritizing formal, registered establishments.
