3-Year-Old Boy Dies After Spending Hours Inside a Car: Vicente’s Case Shocks Mexicali

A three-year-old boy died in Mexicali after remaining locked inside a car for more than twelve hours. The mother has been detained, and the case has sparked a wave of outrage throughout the city.

According to reports, the death occurred on the morning of May 2. The official cause of death was heatstroke, as confirmed by the autopsy performed by the Forensic Medical Service.

The tragedy took place on Saturday in the La Rioja residential subdivision. According to accounts, Vicente’s mother returned home shortly before midnight on Friday, May 1, after attending a party. Upon arriving, she entered the house and took a shower, but forgot the boy, who was asleep in his car seat.

Upon realizing Vicente’s absence, the woman found him unconscious inside the car and called for help.

According to the forensic pathologist, the outside temperature that day ranged between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius; however, the temperature inside the vehicle was estimated to have reached over 45 degrees. The child, identified as Vicente, sustained first-degree burns on his thighs and forearms, according to the report issued by the director of the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO), César González Vaca.
