Under a heavy security operation led by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM)—in coordination with the state Secretariat of Security and the National Guard—Diego Sebastián and Gerardo were transported in an armored vehicle and admitted to the Tlalnepantla Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center, known as Barrientos Prison.
The convoy departed shortly before 9:00 a.m. from the FGJEM Central Complex in Toluca to bring both accused men before a Control Judge, who will preside over the initial hearing to formally present charges regarding their alleged responsibility for the multiple homicide that took place in Atizapán de Zaragoza.
Prosecutors stated that the 48-hour constitutional deadline to determine the legal status of both detainees expires this Friday at 10:00 a.m.
The events in question occurred last Tuesday, September 1, inside a home in the Grand Viure residential complex—located in the Zona Esmeralda area of Atizapán de Zaragoza—where the following individuals were found dead:
Jonathan Meléndez, keyboardist for the band Camilo Séptimo
Ana Paula, the musician’s wife
Sofía, the couple’s three-year-old daughter
Aleyda Romero Victorio, a domestic worker
The two accused men will remain in custody at the State of Mexico prison pending the hearing where the court will decide whether to bind them over for trial.
