A group of residents in Punta Mita, in the state of Nayarit, have staged protests alleging damage to Las Cocinas Beach, a designated turtle nesting zone.
These actions stem from residents’ claims that Cantiles de Mita—a subsidiary of Grupo Dine—has carried out operations involving heavy machinery that have adversely affected the site.
In response to the protests, municipal and state authorities deployed to the scene and reportedly detained four individuals; consequently, their families are calling for the intervention of the state government led by Miguel Ángel Navarro.
In mid-March 2026, Cantiles de Mita (Grupo Dine) commenced operations at Las Cocinas Beach, located in Punta Mita, Nayarit.
In this regard, it has been reported that the work involves the construction of a luxury residential complex, representing an estimated investment of 10 billion pesos.
The ongoing operations—which utilize heavy machinery to remove rocks, soil, and sand—have led Punta Mita residents to allege that the turtle nesting zone has been damaged.
In light of these events—which also included the clearing of mangrove trees located in two estuaries—residents have staged protests demanding an immediate halt to all construction activities at the site.
On Monday, April 27, dozens of residents staged a blockade at the Higuera Blanca intersection; during the demonstration, they demanded that the company repair the damage it has caused.
