The Jalisco State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) concluded its traffic accident analysis regarding the crash that claimed the life of 19-year-old motorcyclist Jostin Santamaría. The findings determined that Michelle Zepeda, the weather presenter for N+ Guadalajara, ran a red light at the intersection where the collision occurred.
The incident took place at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the intersection of Vallarta and Enrique Díaz de León avenues in Guadalajara, near the General Rectory of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG).
Santamaría was riding a Crossfox 220 motorcycle when he collided with the SUV driven by Zepeda. The young man died at the scene due to trauma sustained in the collision.
This expert finding alters the course of the investigation, as the state prosecutor’s office had been awaiting the technical determination to assign liability for the traffic incident. With the determination that Zepeda failed to stop at the red light, prosecutors are classifying the incident as negligent homicide.
Following the crash, Zepeda did not remain at the scene because she had sustained injuries requiring her transport to a hospital for emergency medical care.
The FGE dismissed claims circulated by the victim’s family regarding an alleged flight from the scene or influence peddling, clarifying that the driver remained reachable at all times, held a valid insurance policy, and was interviewed at the hospital by a Public Prosecutor’s agent, who ordered toxicology and alcohol tests.
With the technical report concluded, procedural law allows for a phase in which the parties may evaluate reaching a reparation agreement with the indirect victims. In the event that a negotiated resolution is not reached, the FGE will bring the case file before a control judge to proceed with the corresponding criminal proceedings.
