A judge sentenced Francisco Javier Chapa Maldonado—alias “El Cholo,” a member of the Gulf Cartel—to 332 years and six months in prison for the crimes of unlawful deprivation of liberty, stockpiling firearms, and possessing ammunition restricted for exclusive use by the armed forces.
The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that he was also fined 1,626,813 pesos. He was arrested in May 2012 in the Sector Centro neighborhood of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, by personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar).
Authorities seized firearms from him and rescued 13 victims who were being held against their will. Federal prosecutors assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Regional Control (FECOR) in Tamaulipas, in coordination with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), presented the necessary evidence and secured the sentence from the judge.
