The circulation of a video showing Gerardo de la Maza—a *Movimiento Ciudadano* (MC) mayor from the municipality of El Carmen, Nuevo León—physically assaulting a waiter at a taco shop in San Pedro Garza García sparked outrage on social media.
The official reacted violently because the establishment’s staff did not take his daughter’s order as quickly as he expected; however, the waiter attending to them had confirmed they were still undecided, so he had chosen to step away until they were ready to order.
Gerardo de la Maza will face criminal charges for physically assaulting the taco shop waiter.
In a statement justifying his actions, De la Maza argued that his behavior stemmed from a parental impulse, noting: “As a father, there are moments when love and concern for our children can lead us to react in the wrong way.”
Despite the statement and apologies issued by the mayor from Nuevo León, citizens and social media users condemned the violence and arrogance displayed toward the worker, demanding an investigation into the incident and that appropriate legal accountability be established for the assault.
Rodolfo Peña Martínez reported that the municipal leadership will file a formal complaint against the mayor—a member of *Movimiento Ciudadano*—for the offenses of physical violence, making threats, and abuse of authority.
After footage of the assault went viral, the mayor published an official statement on his digital platforms acknowledging his responsibility for the altercation, admitting his behavior was improper, and offering a public apology to those affected.
