Cristian Martín Medina García, alias “El Vikingo”—a 25-year-old professional boxer trained by Rigoberto Álvarez (brother of Saúl “El Canelo” Álvarez)—was arrested on the Uruapan-Chilchota federal highway near the La Basilia neighborhood. He was allegedly demanding payments from avocado producers on behalf of the criminal cell “Los R’s,” the armed wing of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Michoacán and Jalisco.

Medina García’s path to professional boxing began at age 13 in Uruapan, following the example of an older brother.
