Abelardo de la Espriella announced the capture of Luis Saúl Pérez Nieto—alias “Páez” or “Nairobi”—in the Fontibón district of Bogotá.
The man is identified as one of the key leaders of the Tren de Aragua gang in Peru and an alleged trusted associate of Héctor Guerrero Flores—alias “Niño Guerrero”—who led the Venezuelan criminal organization.
According to Colombian authorities, the detainee was responsible for coordinating extortion, international arms trafficking, targeted killings, and drug trafficking across strategic corridors in South and Central America.
Furthermore, he was wanted by U.S. authorities for offenses related to these criminal activities, according to information released by the Colombian official.
The arrest took place in Fontibón, a district in the western part of the Colombian capital, as part of law enforcement efforts against transnational organized crime networks.
De la Espriella warned that the pursuit of members of criminal organizations operating or attempting to establish themselves in the country would continue.
“Colombia will not be a refuge or sanctuary for any criminal. We will pursue them, capture them, and bring them to justice, no matter where they come from,” he concluded.
