State and federal authorities arrested Felipe de Jesús—known as “El Canelo”—in the Mexicali Valley; he is a lieutenant within the Sinaloa Cartel cells operating in the desert and mountainous regions of Baja California.
“El Canelo” and one of his bodyguards belong to the “Los Rusos” group, which is responsible for drug trafficking operations for “La Mayiza.”
The operation took place on Monday while state police, federal forces, and military personnel were conducting preventive patrols along Benito Juárez García Alley in the Ciudad Coahuila *ejido* (communal settlement), located at kilometer 57 of the highway between Mexicali and San Luis Río Colorado.
At the scene, they spotted a reported stolen Kia Sportage carrying Felipe de Jesús (28) and Moisés (27), natives of Nayarit and Sinaloa, respectively.
Authorities seized two rifles, two handguns, 21 magazines, and 398 rounds of ammunition, as well as four radios, three ballistic vests, and 1,350 small packages containing a total of 852 grams of methamphetamine.
According to the Secretariat of Citizen Security, security coordination groups have identified “El Canelo” as being involved in contract killing activities across various parts of the southern Mexicali Valley.
