A 20-year-old woman identified as Briseida Abigail was executed by gunmen on Friday night near the Azteca neighborhood in the municipality of Escuinapa, Sinaloa. The targeted attack prompted a response from local security and emergency medical services.
Following reports of gunfire, Civil Protection personnel immediately rushed to the scene to administer first aid to the victim.
The young woman was urgently transported to the IMSS-Bienestar Hospital in the municipal seat; however, emergency room doctors confirmed she showed no vital signs upon arrival due to the severity of her injuries.
Weeks prior to the attack, a video had circulated on various social media platforms showing the deceased—along with a friend—wearing tactical gear and carrying long guns. After her death was confirmed, the video went viral again, sparking numerous reactions and comments among users in the region.
The Sinaloa State Attorney General’s Office has taken charge of the case and opened an investigation to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the homicide. Locally, the incident has reignited public debate regarding the normalization of “narco-culture,” the use of weaponry, and the significant structural risks young people face when they become involved with, display, or simulate ties to organized crime groups.
