The alleged perpetrator behind the femicide of former beauty queen Carolina Flores Gómez—which took place in Mexico City’s Polanco neighborhood—was arrested this Wednesday, April 29, in Venezuela. Her capture followed a request by Mexican authorities for Interpol to issue a Red Notice to locate and apprehend her.
According to sources within the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX), the arrest of Erika María Guadalupe N was made possible thanks to international cooperation mechanisms activated by the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR), which allowed authorities to locate her outside the country after she had spent several days as a fugitive.
The case, which has sparked public outrage and garnered international coverage, dates back to April 15, when 27-year-old Carolina Flores Gómez was murdered inside her home in Polanco.
The young woman, a native of Baja California, was known for having been a beauty queen and for her presence on social media.
Investigations indicate that the attack occurred inside the apartment she shared with her husband and their baby, who was just eight months old. According to reports, the attack was carried out with a firearm—allegedly by her mother-in-law, Erika “N”—who subsequently fled the scene.
