The Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) will issue a formal demand—accompanied by a warning of potential sanctions—to Uruapan Mayor Grecia Quiroz García, requiring her to surrender the cell phones belonging to Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, the former mayor who was executed by the CJNG.
This announcement was made by the acting head of the FGE, Israel Vega Rodríguez, who emphasized that legal proceedings are advancing steadily.
He warned that if the refusal to hand over the devices persists, the official could face an arrest warrant or the opening of a formal investigation file for the probable commission of the crime of obstruction of justice.
During a press conference, the Deputy Prosecutor for Intelligence and Criminal Investigation stated that the prosecution is keeping all lines of investigation open regarding the former mayor’s homicide, including the financial aspect.
He explained that this work is being carried out in coordination with the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) and also stems from the arrest of several individuals implicated in the case.
The state official maintained that various developments in the process are being kept strictly confidential to ensure the integrity of ongoing operational and prosecutorial proceedings.
Regarding any potential link between Mayor Grecia Quiroz García and the homicide of Manzo Rodríguez, Vega Rodríguez clarified that, so far, the mayor has only been summoned to provide a supplementary statement as a witness; however, he did not rule out the possibility that her legal status could change depending on the evidence yielded by the investigations.
