U.S. authorities seized 43,000 rounds of ammunition at the Mariposa, Arizona border crossing, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson—a retired colonel—reported on Monday.
According to the diplomat, the operation involved the Office of Field Operations, agents from Tucson, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He noted that the seizure reaffirms President Donald Trump’s commitment to curbing illegal arms trafficking and combating cartels.
Johnson highlighted that the seizure also demonstrates the value of advanced non-intrusive inspection technology in detecting illicit activities at border crossings. He added that cooperation between Mexico and the United States helps strengthen the security of both nations.
