Jalisco police arrested Miguel Casillas, known as “Compa Mike 517,” in Zapopan after U.S. intelligence helped locate him on outstanding American warrants.
Jalisco police arrested Miguel Casillas, known as “Compa Mike 517,” in Zapopan on Friday after information from the U.S. Marshals Service helped investigators locate the American fugitive. Authorities say he was wanted in the United States for homicide, attempted homicide and federal drug offenses.
The information set off a search in western Zapopan, where Jalisco’s intelligence and cyber-police units identified places Casillas allegedly frequented. Investigators narrowed the search area, then used drones to locate a man matching his description, according to the state police account.
Officers approached him at the intersection of Central Guillermo González Camarena and Urbano San Román Gómez in Residencial Poniente, near Valle Real. After checking his identity and confirming the outstanding U.S. judicial orders, they took him into custody. Some outlets reported that the operation involved ground units and aerial surveillance.
The San Diego arrest warrant dates to June and concerns homicide and attempted homicide. They also identify separate federal drug charges. The reviewed accounts do not provide the underlying court documents or explain the circumstances of the alleged crimes.
Casillas was subsequently taken to Mexico’s National Migration Institute for processing toward a possible handover to U.S. authorities. The reports do not establish that he has been transferred or specify whether authorities would pursue deportation, expulsion or extradition. Those procedures remain distinct, and his placement in immigration custody does not establish which will apply.
State police said the capture brought Jalisco’s tally of priority fugitives sought by U.S. agencies to 20. Authorities attributed those arrests to information sharing with American officials, supported by intelligence work and surveillance technology. The latest capture illustrates that cooperation, while Casillas’ transfer arrangements and the next steps in his U.S. cases remain unspecified.
