Federal authorities intercepted two vessels carrying 45 migrants in the waters of the Ensenada municipality this Saturday, September 26.
During a surveillance patrol in Ensenada waters, personnel from the Navy Secretariat’s Second Naval Zone stopped two yachts carrying nearly fifty people and 1,850 liters of diesel fuel.
Authorities reported that the individuals were allegedly being transported illegally to the United States; consequently, five suspected offenders were arrested for the illegal transport of people and hydrocarbons to that country.
The group—all Mexican nationals comprising 41 men, one woman, and three minors—along with the hydrocarbon cargo (distributed across 23 containers), were taken to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in Ensenada for the corresponding legal proceedings.
This incident follows five other similar cases in September involving migrants attempting to cross illegally into San Diego County by sea using small boats and other vessels, resulting in a total of 130 migrant detentions.
The most recent interception of migrants in the coastal area occurred two days ago, when eight people from various countries were detained by U.S. authorities after attempting to cross by boat off the coast of Point Loma.
