The mayor of Temoac, Morelos, Valentín Lavín Romero, was executed on the morning of Wednesday, July 22, inside the municipal building. The mayor—representing the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM)—was the victim of a direct armed attack just minutes after arriving at his offices.
This incident marks the second armed attack against the mayor so far this year.
According to police reports and witness accounts from the scene, two gunmen stormed the building—located in the center of the municipal seat—and shot Lavín Romero at close range. After carrying out the execution, the assailants left the municipal building and fled on a motorcycle.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed the mayor’s death. The State Coordination Board for Peacebuilding and the Morelos State Attorney General’s Office (FGEM) launched an operation in Temoac and surrounding areas to search for those responsible, while forensic experts from the Eastern Regional Prosecutor’s Office processed the scene and removed the body.
