Members of organized crime groups attacked personnel from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) in the municipality of Omealca, Veracruz; two agents died and another was wounded, reported Omar García Harfuch. In a subsequent message, the secretary announced that the Security Cabinet maintained its deployment and succeeded in rescuing two kidnapping victims.
The head of the SSPC stated that the agents were attacked while “conducting investigative work.”
Government sources indicated that cells of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) operate in the Omealca area.
The official reported via his “X” account that “sadly, two federal agents lost their lives and a female colleague was injured; she is receiving medical attention and has our full support.
“We express our deepest condolences and solidarity to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of our fallen agents.
“We acknowledge their bravery and commitment to protecting the public.
“An operation was launched immediately to locate and apprehend those responsible. We appreciate the immediate support and coordination from the Secretariat of National Defense (@Defensamx1), the Secretariat of the Navy (@SEMAR_mx), the National Guard (@GN_MEXICO_), the Secretariat of Public Security and the Attorney General’s Office of Veracruz, as well as the authorities of Oaxaca.”
