The Colombian National Police confirmed an alleged case of child abuse in a residential building in Bogotá, after several neighbors alerted authorities to the presence of an adult who had allegedly committed abusive acts against a minor.
The incident sparked a strong reaction from the community and prompted the immediate mobilization of authorities on the afternoon of Sunday, June 14. The episode began when residents of the area around 106A Street and 19th Avenue, in the north of the city, notified the police about suspicious behavior observed in an apartment in the Niido building.
From the street and nearby balconies, several witnesses saw what they described as a possible assault on a child, which ignited outrage in the neighborhood and prompted the arrival of multiple police patrols, as well as the riot squad.
According to information provided by the National Police, the first officers to arrive at the scene encountered a tense atmosphere, as a group of people demanded the identification of the alleged perpetrator and guarantees for the protection of the minors involved.
The arrival of the police generated moments of high tension, as part of the community demanded to see the suspect and called for immediate justice. Given the possibility of disturbances, commandos from the Undmo (Special Operations Unit) intervened to ensure security in the area and facilitate the release of the detainee, who remained inside the building for approximately three hours while initial verifications were completed.
The Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) reported via its official account on X that the immediate response protocol for cases of alleged sexual violence had been activated, with the participation of specialized teams: “The children are accompanied by a Family Advocacy team that is verifying their rights and ensuring their protection,” the agency stated.
