Hundreds of people participated in a peaceful march on Saturday, April 25, to demand justice for the femicide of Carolina Flores—a former model and winner of the 2017 Miss Teen Universe Baja California pageant.
The contingent gathered at the State Center for the Arts (CEARTE) and proceeded along the coastal boulevard via the bike path, continuing along Ruiz Street until reaching Revolution Park, where a public statement was delivered in memory of the 27-year-old woman.
During the event, Carolina’s mother, Gómez Molina, delivered a message in which she expressed gratitude for the community’s support and reiterated her demand for justice from the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office—the agency currently investigating the case as a femicide.
Carolina’s death occurred on April 15 and was reported the following day by her husband, Alejandro Sánchez Herrera. The victim’s mother-in-law, Erika María Guadalupe Herrera Coriant, has been identified as the alleged perpetrator after appearing in a video recording in which she is purportedly seen shooting at Carolina. Erika is currently a fugitive.
Gómez Molina, Carolina’s mother, noted that her granddaughter—an eight-month-old infant—remains under her father’s care, and she clarified that there is no conflict between herself and her son-in-law.
“At this moment, the little girl is with her father. I know she is being cared for and looked after, and I have no conflict with my son-in-law because both he and I seek only for justice to be served,” she stated.
“Today, we are an incomplete team; a fundamental member was snatched away from us,” her mother expressed, while recalling Carolina’s childhood and her empathetic nature.
Attendees carried banners and chanted slogans such as: “May her name not be forgotten,” “Not one more Carolina—justice for Carolina,” and “Today we march for a mother, a daughter, a sister.” Upon arriving at Parque Revolución, family associates continued to call upon Mexican authorities to ensure that justice is served and that the crime does not go unpunished.
