On Wednesday night, a wake was held for journalist Alejandro Leyva Aguilar at the Núñez Banuet funeral home in the Reforma neighborhood, where the journalist was welcomed with applause by family and friends.
Leyva Aguilar was murdered on Wednesday morning while having breakfast in the La Esmeralda residential complex in San Pablo Etla—where he lived—when two individuals arrived on a motorcycle and one of them shot him.
The State Attorney General’s Office released his body to his family, and it was taken to the funeral home, where the wake is being held in Chapel 5. A mass will be offered tomorrow, after which he will be taken to the San Miguel cemetery for burial.
On Wednesday, in his column *El Zumbido del Moscardón* (The Drone of the Horsefly), Leyva Aguilar criticized the low tourist turnout during this year’s Guelaguetza festivities. Additionally, in the last video he produced—released this past Monday—he identified Morena Senator Antonino Morales Toledo (a close friend of Salomón Jara) as an alleged leader of fuel theft (*huachicol*) operations in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec; he further claimed that Morales Toledo had orchestrated land seizures stretching from the Isthmus to the Oaxacan coast, particularly in Santiago Astata.
Last November, the journalist published a recording denouncing persecution by the state government. At that time, he was campaigning against Jara Cruz in the recall election, while state authorities announced an audit of CORTV—covering the period when Leyva Aguilar served as director—due to alleged misappropriation of public funds.
