New Incursion by Alleged CJNG Members Reported in Aquila, Michoacán; Community Police Officer Injured

Residents of the indigenous community of Santa María Ostula, in the municipality of Aquila, Michoacán, reported a new incursion into the area by alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), as well as an armed attack on a community police officer who was seriously injured.

The National Indigenous Congress (CNI) reported that the incident took place around 7:00 PM on Saturday, July 4, specifically at the Mina de la Providencia outpost, which was attacked by armed individuals—allegedly cartel members.

They further stated that the assailants shot a community member who also works for the Aquila municipal government as a plumber and was on duty at the time of the attack.

Although the attack was repelled by the Community Guard, the man sustained serious injuries.
