In a joint operation by all three levels of government, Juan “El Junior,” identified as the second-in-command of the Los Viagras criminal organization, was arrested. The arrest took place in the municipality of Zihuatanejo de Azueta, Guerrero, weakening the operational structure of this criminal group in the Costa Grande region.
The Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) confirmed that the arrest was made on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Along with the criminal leader, another individual, identified as Christopher, who operated as his direct accomplice, was also apprehended.
Both individuals are under formal investigation for their alleged involvement in the crime of aggravated extortion. The arrest was made possible thanks to a timely report from a victim, who provided the necessary information to track down the criminals. Drug Trafficking News
According to the Prosecutor’s Office investigation:
Since February of this year, the victim began receiving threatening messages and messages of extreme psychological abuse.
The criminals demanded recurring sums of money as a “protection fee” to avoid harming the victim or their family.
Unlike other cells that operate remotely, the investigation indicates that both “El Junior” and Christopher “N” personally went to the agreed-upon establishments or locations to collect the extortion payments.
After a tactical operation that allowed them to be intercepted without any shots being fired, the two men were immediately taken into custody and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine their legal status.
The Guerrero Prosecutor’s Office reported that it is maintaining several lines of investigation, since, based on Juan “El Junior’s” profile, it is presumed that both detainees are linked to other high-impact crimes in the area, such as kidnapping, homicide, and control of local markets on the borders of Guerrero and Michoacán.
