Judicial authorities in Jalisco have issued a formal order to proceed with prosecution against Antonio, who is accused of the femicide of Azucena Dalila Camarena Cisneros, a 41-year-old professor at ITESO University.
The crime, which took place on January 13 in the municipality of Zapopan, was initially presented by the defendant as a suicide; he attempted to stage the scene and conceal evidence to support this claim.
According to the Jalisco State Attorney General’s Office, the investigation was conducted under the femicide protocol and with a gender perspective after investigators discovered inconsistencies at the scene—an apartment in the Arcos de Zapopan neighborhood. Although the victim’s body was found near a cable and a paint can in an attempt to simulate death by hanging, scientific evidence ultimately dismantled the defendant’s version of events.
Attorney General Salvador González de los Santos revealed harrowing details regarding the perpetrator’s *modus operandi*. The investigation indicates that Antonio—the victim’s romantic partner—administered a combination of alcohol and benzodiazepines to the professor to render her unconscious.
Once the victim had lost consciousness, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her—recording the attack—before ultimately murdering her using a cable. Following the act, the man altered the scene to mislead investigators and create the impression that the victim’s death was the result of a personal decision on her part.
To secure the suspect’s capture and formal indictment, the Public Prosecutor’s Office carried out an exhaustive intelligence operation that included:
The analysis of over 500 hours of security camera footage.
The execution of 20 expert forensic analyses and 78 ministerial investigative procedures.
The conducting of 19 interviews and two court-authorized interceptions of communications.
Thanks to the strength of the evidence presented, a control judge ratified Antonio’s detention; he now faces charges of femicide, rape, and aggravated rape. As a precautionary measure, mandatory preventive detention was imposed for a period of one year, during which the supplementary investigation will be conducted to issue a final judgment.
With this development, the Prosecutor’s Office seeks to ensure justice for the teacher and send a forceful message against impunity regarding gender-based violence crimes within the state.
