A clash between State Investigation Agency (AEI) agents and a group of hitmen, which took place Saturday night in the town of San Juanito (municipality of Bocoyna, Chihuahua), resulted in the death of a criminal leader and injuries to several agents.

It was reported that Iván Manjarrez—”El Roy”—died at the scene of the shootout; authorities identify him as the regional boss of a criminal cell linked to the Juárez Cartel that operates in the mountain region.

During the exchange of gunfire, several AEI officers sustained gunshot wounds; they were assisted by their colleagues and rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police forces secured the perimeter to process the scene and collect evidence, while the Chihuahua State Attorney General’s Office launched the corresponding investigation.
