Businessman Jesús Molina Vargas was found alive on the night of Sunday, August 23, near El Sauzal on the Tijuana-Ensenada free highway in the municipality of Ensenada. He was discovered approximately 26 hours after an armed group abducted him from his ecotourism park in Playas de Rosarito.
The operation that led to his recovery involved more than a thousand personnel from five federal and state agencies, supported by air and ground units.
The State Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) confirmed he had been found around 7:30 p.m. After being located, the businessman was taken for a medical evaluation to check his health status. He is expected to give a statement to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the coming hours to assist the investigation.
During the first half of 2026, the FGE received 1,407 reports of disappearances in Baja California, involving 1,484 registered victims; of these, 239 were found dead. In Rosarito alone, 69 reports were filed during that period.
