On the afternoon of May 9, two men lost their lives and four other people were injured following an armed attack in the Tepito neighborhood—part of the Colonia Morelos district—in Mexico City.
According to preliminary official reports, officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security responded to the scene after receiving reports of gunshots; upon arrival, they found several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds and covered in blood.
Paramedics arriving at the site treated the injured victims on the spot before transporting them to various hospitals across the city for medical care. The injured included two women and two men.
The two fatalities were men aged 22 and 39.
The attack took place on Tenochtitlán Street, where the victims were standing in the public thoroughfare when two hooded individuals approached and opened fire directly at one of them.
Unofficial reports indicate that the attackers fired approximately 20 shots before fleeing through the stalls of the commercial area following the shooting.
