Hitmen Execute Four Women Near Rafael Buelna Market in Downtown Culiacán, Sinaloa

Violence in Culiacán, Sinaloa, reached a critical point on the night of Monday, April 27, after a group of hitmen carried out a direct attack against four women in the vicinity of the Rafael Buelna Market.

The report of the attack was received at approximately 8:00 PM. According to preliminary reports, the victims were intercepted on Miguel Hidalgo Street by a group of armed individuals who opened fire indiscriminately.

Among the victims, the deaths of a mother and her daughter were confirmed; they were identified as Karely, 41, and Itzel, 22. The other two deceased individuals were identified as Sara, 30, and Teresa, 35.

This multiple homicide brings the total number of murders recorded in Culiacán this Monday alone to six, underscoring a day of extreme insecurity for the state capital. Furthermore, the situation regarding violence against women in the state is alarming; with this incident, the number of violent deaths of women this April has risen to seven, although the State Attorney General’s Office has not yet determined whether all these cases will be classified as femicides.

Following reports of the gunfire, officers from various security agencies rushed to the scene to cordon off the area and implement a partial traffic closure in the downtown sector. The police deployment remained in place for several hours while forensic experts from the Prosecutor’s Office carried out the recovery of the bodies and the collection of ballistic evidence to initiate the corresponding investigative file.
