Agents from the Monterrey Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection arrested Héctor Iván on Saturday, August 8. The Nuevo León Attorney General’s Office identified him as the person responsible for pushing an elderly man into the path of a moving semi-truck, causing his death.
The arrest took place on a public street in downtown Monterrey, where municipal officers intercepted the suspect and placed him at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Detectives from the State Investigation Agency (AEI) established Héctor Iván’s probable culpability after analyzing footage captured by municipal C4i4 cameras.
The recordings show the moment a man pushed the victim—shoving him at shoulder level—while both were walking along the sidewalk of Ruiz Cortines Avenue. Following the impact, the elderly man lost his balance and fell—either intentionally pushed or propelled—into the path of the heavy cargo vehicle.
Additionally, at the time of his arrest, officers seized several doses of a dried green plant substance resembling marijuana; consequently, he was also referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office specializing in crimes against public health (specifically, small-scale drug dealing).
The Nuevo León Attorney General’s Office is compiling the investigation file to determine legal liability for the elderly man’s death. In accordance with due process rights, Héctor Iván ‘N’ is presumed innocent until a control judge issues a conviction against him.
The case has garnered significant public attention, as it adds to a wave of fatal assaults against the elderly recently reported across various parts of the country.
