The Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) confirmed the killing of an active-duty National Guard member, identified as Eduardo Bustos Pérez. His dismembered body was found alongside those of three other people on the Acapulco-Chilpancingo highway, near the town of Plan de Lima in the municipality of Juan R. Escudero, Guerrero.

The officer—assigned to the 37th Coordination unit in Iguala and detailed to Ocotito—was on leave when he was abducted by the “Los Ardillos” criminal group, subsequently executed, and dismembered. Hours before the remains were discovered, a video recorded during the agent’s captivity circulated on social media.

In the recording, Bustos Pérez implicated his direct superior, “Corporal Medina,” and a commander from the Serious Crimes Unit of the Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office (FGE)—surnamed Montoro—alleging they operated under instructions from the criminal group “Los Tlacos.”

According to his statements, the network received bi-weekly payments ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 pesos in exchange for using National Guard and FGE resources to monitor, photograph, and geolocate key positions held by the rival “Los Ardillos” organization in the Juan R. Escudero and Xaltianguis region.

Consequently, when “Los Tlacos” attack, torch homes, and murder innocent residents, nothing is done to prevent it or to intervene and provide aid; authorities allow that group of lowlifes to operate for days. It is only after the perpetrators have fled and the events are reported—picked up by outlets like ours—that the authorities make a show of taking action, doing so only after “Los Tlacos” have already left the area. In response to the events, the Armed Forces deployed an operation comprising 284 personnel, 36 vehicles, and two aircraft to reinforce security and intensify the search for the attackers in the central part of the state.
