Erika Guadalupe Herrera was detained on April 29 in Caracas, Venezuela, following an Interpol Red Notice issued in connection with the femicide of Carolina Flores.

During her arrest, Erika Guadalupe Herrera resisted authorities, arguing that they could not detain her in a foreign country for a crime she denied having committed.

According to reports, an initial charge of contempt was reportedly used as a measure to hold her while the international alert issued by Mexico was being confirmed.
According to N+ correspondent Norberto Mazza, at the moment of her detention by authorities in Caracas, Erika Herrera denied having committed the femicide.

At the time of her arrest, Carolina Flores’s mother-in-law refused to provide identification, resulting in an initial charge of contempt of authority being brought against her.
At that point, Erika Herrera asserted that she could not be detained for a crime committed in another country, and subsequently denied having committed the femicide.
