A woman driving drunk caused panic in the Intermunicipal Park of San Andrés Cholula, Puebla, after driving her vehicle into a pedestrian-only zone, ignoring authorities, and attempting to flee, endangering the lives of dozens of families, the officers, and her own minor children.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 11, when the driver entered the park in her car through the entrance at the intersection of 14th West Street and 5th North Street. Upon noticing that she was driving in a prohibited area, local police officers signaled her to stop. Instead of stopping, the woman accelerated to escape.
According to the official report from the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection (SSPPC), the driver sped through the park’s walkways during her escape, forcing pedestrians to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. Officers also had to swerve to avoid the vehicle as they attempted to block its path.
The woman’s dangerous chase ended at the exit of 10th West Street, where she lost control and crashed head-on into some concrete planters. It was at this point that a female police officer managed to approach and subdue her.
Upon being taken to the Public Security Complex, the forensic medical examination confirmed that the detainee was driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.3%, the highest level of intoxication, and she was immediately brought before a judge.
The woman’s arrest was recorded by her teenage daughter, who was traveling in the passenger seat with her nine-year-old brother. The video, which shows the mother resisting arrest and being subdued on the ground by officers amid the children’s screams, was circulated on social media in an attempt to portray the driver as a victim and falsely accuse the police of abuse.
Although the footage initially sparked outrage online, the subsequent release of the official report clarified the situation: the woman was completely drunk, led police on a chase, crashed her car, and endangered her own children.
The two minors suffered nervous breakdowns and had to be treated at the scene by municipal paramedics. They were placed in the safe custody of authorities until their immediate family members arrived at the police station to take them into custody.
