President Claudia Sheinbaum announced this morning during her press conference that the South Korean band BTS will be present at the National Palace this Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. This meeting marks a historic moment in which the most prominent group in K-pop will meet with the head of state—an unprecedented event.
BTS’s three concerts in Mexico mark a historic milestone following their return to the international stage with the tour supporting their most recent album: *Arirang*. Sheinbaum Pardo announced that the meeting came about after she herself sent a letter to the President of South Korea, conveying the enthusiasm of Mexican fans for the group.
“If a large crowd gathers here—because we announced this—we can open the side balcony for them so they can wave to the fans; it would be a lovely gesture, and one that symbolizes the friendship between Korea and Mexico,” the President remarked this morning from the National Palace.
The President detailed that the group is scheduled to arrive at the venue at 5:00 p.m. and that Claudia Curiel, the Secretary of Culture, is assisting with the arrangements for this visit. “Remember how this all came to pass: they are a musical group from South Korea that enjoys immense global success—truly immense success—particularly among Mexican youth. They possess a wonderful quality: the songs they perform always convey messages of friendship, peace, and—one might say—deep humanism,” declared Claudia Sheinbaum.
