Mexican authorities seized 171.42 kilograms of suspected cocaine hidden in a tractor-trailer’s fuel tanks during an inspection in Huixtla, Chiapas, near the country’s southern commercial corridor.
Mexican authorities reported seizing approximately 171.42 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed inside the fuel tanks of a tractor-trailer in Huixtla, Chiapas, near the country’s southern commercial border corridor.
According to the federal Security Cabinet, personnel inspecting the truck at the Huixtla Comprehensive Border Traffic Center identified irregularities using mobile X-ray equipment. A subsequent inspection, assisted by a trained detection dog, led to the discovery of 170 packages—85 inside each fuel tank.
The operation involved personnel from Mexico’s National Customs Agency, the National Guard, the Defense Ministry and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. The driver and suspected cocaine were turned over to the Attorney General’s Office for further proceedings.
The concealment method is a relevant detail: the alleged shipment was hidden in vehicle fuel tanks rather than simply transported as visible cargo. The location also makes the seizure relevant to reporting on trafficking routes and inspection activity along Mexico’s southern commercial corridor.
