At least 19 alleged members of Los Rugrats were detained in Sinaloa between October 10 and 15, as authorities target a group linked to the La Mayiza faction.
The armed group known as Los Rugrats, associated with the La Mayiza faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, has suffered a series of arrests that have targeted members of its operational and logistical network. EL PAÍS reports that at least 19 members were detained between October 10 and October 15, while the group’s alleged leader, Carlos Páez Pereda, known as “Carlitos Rugrats,” remains a central figure in the investigation.
The arrests affect more than the group’s immediate armed personnel. Reporting also describes detentions involving relatives and alleged logistical operators, suggesting pressure on the relationships that help sustain the organization’s activities. The group is linked to the faction led by Ismael “Mayito Flaco” Zambada Sicairos and operates amid the wider conflict between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel.
The central unanswered question is whether the arrests will significantly weaken the group’s ability to operate or whether its remaining leadership and network will allow it to continue.
