Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar—sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and current leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel’s “Los Chapitos” faction—may be facing a pivotal moment following the cooperation their brothers, Ovidio and Joaquín Guzmán López, have maintained with U.S. authorities since their arrests.

Following the issuance of at least eleven recent indictments against politicians—including Sinaloa’s governor on leave, Rubén Rocha Moya—and even Nicolás Maduro Moros, for alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel via the Cartel de los Soles (of which Maduro is alleged to be the leader), the two ringleaders of Los Chapitos are reportedly weighing a possible surrender to the United States, according to an article in the *Los Angeles Times*.

According to journalist Keegan Melton, two sources familiar with the cases indicated that both Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo have been in contact with U.S. authorities to explore the possibility of a negotiated surrender.

One of the sources stated that discussions between the brothers and the U.S. began approximately a year ago, leading to speculation that they were waiting to observe the trajectory of the cases against Ovidio and Joaquín Guzmán before making a final decision.
