Judith, an active member of the National Guard, was discharged from the hospital and admitted to the Santiaguito Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center. She will face criminal proceedings to determine her liability in the death of her partner, identified as “El Tomás”—a key operative for the criminal group La Familia Michoacana who even bore a tattoo reading “At the command of ‘H’ and ‘El Pez’.”
Concurrently, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) is investigating whether the accused exploited her position within the federal agency to leak operational information to the criminal organization operating in the state.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 3. According to preliminary investigations, while the woman was handling a firearm, a shot was accidentally discharged; the bullet passed through her right hand and struck her partner in the abdomen. Although the man was transported to a nearby hospital, he died in the emergency room due to the severity of the wound.
Following the death, Judith—who was also receiving medical care at the same hospital—attempted to conceal the deceased’s identity by claiming to authorities that they had been victims of a robbery.
However, she made multiple contradictory statements during questioning by prosecutors until she finally admitted the identity of “El Tomás,” who was classified as a high-priority target by state and federal forces.
In her final statements, the accused maintained that the discharge was accidental. Nevertheless, prosecutors will keep two main lines of investigation open:
Homicide: To clarify the circumstances of the incident and determine her criminal liability regarding her partner’s death.
Espionage and organized crime: To verify whether the agent was acting as an informant for La Familia Michoacana or receiving payments in exchange for providing protection and strategic information to the criminal group’s leadership. Judith “N” will remain in custody at the State of Mexico prison while judicial authorities determine her legal status.
