A clash on the Arteaga-Tumbiscatío highway, near the area known as “El Invernadero,” resulted in a preliminary death toll of three members of a criminal organization. According to unofficial local reports, the local crime boss operating in that area may be among the deceased.
The shootout triggered a massive air and ground deployment involving coordinated efforts by the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Civil Guard, and the Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), who secured the perimeter to allow for official investigative procedures.
Following the ceasefire, security and investigative forces processed the scene, seizing high-caliber weaponry, various pieces of tactical gear, and a number of vehicles riddled with bullet holes, most notably:
A white GMC Sierra pickup truck.
A black Jeep Wrangler with red accents.
A red Jeep Wrangler.
Another red pickup truck.
All seized weaponry and vehicles were turned over to the Federal Public Prosecutor to be included in the corresponding investigation file.
Although the state prosecutor’s office is withholding the identities of the three deceased individuals pending forensic confirmation, local sources and social media reports indicate that one of the dead is a man known as “Miguelito,” who was in charge of criminal operations in the municipality of Arteaga.
Additionally, reports gained traction suggesting that the armed clash stemmed from an alleged internal betrayal orchestrated by Fernando Cruz Mendoza, alias “El Tena.” Judicial and journalistic records identify “El Tena” as a former commander of the Knights Templar (*Los Caballeros Templarios*) who subsequently formed his own criminal cell in the Sierra-Costa region and has recently been linked operationally to the structures of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The significance of this clash lies in the geographic location of Arteaga, historically considered a strategic corridor in Michoacán; it directly connects the Sierra-Costa region with the Tierra Caliente and the international port of Lázaro Cárdenas—a route of high value for the trafficking of weapons, drugs, and chemical precursors.
This territory was once controlled by *La Familia Michoacana* and later by the Knights Templar—an organization founded by Servando Gómez Martínez, alias “La Tuta,” a native of this municipality. Following the dismantling of that leadership, the region underwent a process of criminal fragmentation.
Should the downfall of a high-level operator like “Miguelito” be formally confirmed, authorities anticipate a scenario involving a violent realignment and internal disputes for control of the territory—a recurring dynamic in the state whenever regional leadership is left vacant.
