Raúl Rangel used his outstretched right arm to stop a header that seemed destined for the back of the net; with that crucial save in the dying minutes, he handed Mexico a 1–0 victory over South Korea. This result made *El Tricolor* the first team to qualify for the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, finishing with six points in Group A.
The goalkeeper ended the play clutching the ball on the pitch at Guadalajara Stadium, with the crowd on its feet.

The win put Mexico three points ahead of Korea and five points clear of the Czech Republic and South Africa, who had drawn 1–1 in the day’s other match.

The moment arrived while *El Tri* was already leading. In the final minutes of the second half, a Korean cross beat the first line of defense, and a South Korean attacker met it with a header directed straight at the goal. Silence fell over the stands; everyone assumed a goal was inevitable.

However, in a matter of seconds, Rangel threw himself down to defend the net. What followed was even more difficult: the same player struck the ball with his leg before the keeper could secure it, but “Tala” Rangel stretched out his right arm to deflect the shot with his fingertips, then dove onto the ball to clutch it with all his might.

After the match, the National Team shared a direct quote from the goalkeeper on social media, accompanied by a photo of the moment. Rangel also spoke to the media, describing what he experienced in that split second.

“It happened so fast; it was pure reaction. I couldn’t tell you exactly what I saw, because I only remember the moment of impact with my teammate and then holding the ball. I think I was focused; I stepped up when the team needed me, and I’m very happy about that,” he said.
