The Mexican consulates in California, MAOF, and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad are offering financial assistance to eligible high school seniors preparing to attend college in 2026.
Mexican consulates in California, in collaboration with the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IMME), have announced a second call for applications for the *Becas Alas* (Wings Scholarships) program, aimed at students of Mexican and Latino origin in the U.S.
Following the success of the first edition, these institutions and organizations have opened a new application period for high school graduates this year who already have an acceptance letter from an accredited university in the country.
The aid consists of financial support ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 per student, intended to facilitate their access to higher education.
Applications can be submitted online at maof.org/becasalas and must be completed by 11:59 PM on September 4, 2026.
Requirements to obtain the *Becas Alas* scholarship:
Be a high school senior.
Hold an acceptance letter from an accredited university in the country.
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Submit an essay of at least 500 words.
Be of Mexican or Latino origin.
Reside in one of the following counties: Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Tulare, or Ventura.
