Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the whereabouts of Rubén Rocha Moya—the governor of Sinaloa currently on leave—are indeed known, and she revealed his location, following accusations by the United States regarding his alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.
During today’s morning press conference—held on May 11, 2026—the President stated that Rubén Rocha Moya “is in Sinaloa,” adding that “he himself—or the other nine individuals—could provide information regarding their whereabouts.”
Sheinbaum Pardo explicitly ruled out the possibility that Rubén Rocha Moya has fled Mexico.
“There is a great deal of propaganda, but very little actual information,” President Sheinbaum Pardo noted regarding the case of Rubén Rocha Moya and the nine other officials accused by the New York Attorney’s Office of probable links to the Sinaloa Cartel.
She remarked that social media is rife with “an immense amount of propaganda and falsehoods—absolute lies.” In fact, she pointed out that “our current ‘lie detectors’ are proving insufficient, and we need to take further action.”
“Accurate information is paramount—not propaganda, nor the deliberate attempt to foster an atmosphere of rumors that tends to perpetuate the notion that there are more problems than actually exist,” the President emphasized.
