The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Baja California has achieved substantial progress following the violent incident recorded on April 10 in the Hidalgo neighborhood of Mexicali. Authorities confirmed that they have fully identified the hitman who directly executed Roberto García Aguirre—a relative of a State Forces agent—during the kidnapping of a two-year-old child.

Miguel Ángel Gaxiola, the state’s Chief Homicide Prosecutor, indicated that investigations point to Selina “N”—a 31-year-old woman and the child’s mother—as the mastermind behind the crime. According to the inquiries, the woman allegedly hired two armed individuals to snatch the child from the custody of his relatives, who held legal guardianship over him. (Politics Mexico)

The events, captured by video surveillance cameras, depict a highly aggressive intrusion. Selina “N” and her accomplices burst into a home housing two families. During the assault, the criminals took a person hostage to force them to reveal the whereabouts of the child, Daniel Eduardo, who was hiding inside the property.

After locating the child—and despite having the victims subdued—one of the assailants shot Roberto García Aguirre repeatedly while he lay defenseless on the floor. Attorney General Ma. Elena Andrade Ramírez described the act as a “merciless” execution, emphasizing that the young child witnessed the entire scene before being abducted.

Given the mother’s U.S. citizenship, an Amber Alert was immediately issued, and efforts were coordinated with authorities in the United States. Following a search operation, the child was located safe and sound in the Villas del Rey residential subdivision, while Selina was arrested in possession of various doses of narcotics.

The Attorney General’s Office clarified that the detainee did not hold legal custody of the child. Currently, she faces charges of aggravated homicide, aggravated kidnapping, and crimes against public health.

Although the mastermind is already in custody, the FGE reported that the actual perpetrators have been identified and are being actively sought throughout the border region. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to apprehending the hitmen involved so that they may face the appropriate criminal proceedings for the death of the state agent’s relative and the trauma inflicted upon the minor.
