On Sunday, April 12, the death of Henry—a two-year-old boy from Valle de Chalco—was announced; he passed away after remaining hospitalized with burns covering 85% of his body. The child was critically injured on February 22, when a store belonging to the 3B chain was set on fire during a wave of unrest that erupted across various parts of the country following the killing of Nemesio Oseguera—known as “El Mencho”—the former leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
The incident took place in the San Miguel Xico neighborhood, at the intersection of Cuitláhuac Avenue and Poniente 13 Street. Henry was with his father at that location when the convenience store came under attack. According to authorities, two individuals threw a homemade Molotov cocktail inside the establishment, sparking a fire that left Henry, his father, and a third person with severe injuries.
Following the attack, Henry was transferred to the National Institute of Rehabilitation in Mexico City to receive specialized medical care. The child remained under sedation and underwent several surgical procedures throughout his hospitalization due to the severity of the injuries he had sustained. Updates regarding his medical condition were kept confidential throughout the entire process.
