The tension and impact caused by federal authorities executing a search warrant at both the main administrative offices of the nation’s second-largest school district and the private residence of its top official, Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, have raised a series of concerns about the future of the district’s leader.

Yesterday, the School Board issued a brief statement saying:

“The LAUSD Board of Education understands that today’s news has raised questions across our school communities. The Board’s priority remains ensuring that our students, families, and employees experience a safe and welcoming learning environment. Teaching and learning continue across our schools. Los Angeles Unified continues to stay focused on our responsibility to serve students and our families.”

The LAUSD Board of Education has officially posted a Special Board Meeting, including a Closed Session, for Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The only item listed for the closed-door meeting is: “Public Employment: General Superintendent of Schools.”

This specific agenda language indicates that the Board will formally discuss Alberto Carvalho’s future, including potential options such as administrative leave or other personnel actions.

Although the Board previously showed unanimous support for Carvalho—renewing his contract just months ago in late 2025—it is now under intense pressure to address the “distraction” caused by the federal investigation into financial matters and the failed AllHere AI contract.

There is currently no information on whether the Board will issue a public decision immediately after the 6:00 PM session.

As of February 2026, Alberto Carvalho has neither requested a leave of absence nor been suspended from his position as LAUSD Superintendent.

The LAUSD Board of Education is the only body with the authority to place Carvalho on leave or remove him from office.

Location: The meeting will take place at LAUSD Headquarters (333 S. Beaudry Ave., Los Angeles).
