Over 43,000 rolls of concertina wire border have been delivered and being put in all nine CBP sectors along the Southwest border, the task force announced Wednesday.

Federal forces are installing hundreds of thousands of concertina wire border along the Southwest border with Mexico in a “historic” and major large scale operation announced Wednesday.

The project mirrors placement of concertina wire first started by Texas border security troops in 2022, which had received pushback from the Biden administration.

Now the Trump administration appears to be embracing the concept, and doing so on a grand scale.

Joint Task Force-Southern Border, in coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Defense Logistics Agency, says it is conducting what it calls “the largest concertina wire emplacement in U.S. territorial history.”

Over 43,000 rolls of concertina wire have been delivered and being put in all nine CBP sectors along the Southwest border, the task force announced Wednesday.

“This monumental effort is yet another key step in our enduring commitment to national security,” Chief Blaine Bennett, deputy commander for CBP, JTF-SB, said. “The historic speed, scale, and coordination of this effort reflects the dedication of the interagency approach to this issue.”

Helicopters from the 10th Mountain Combat Aviation Brigade are assisting the installation by delivering materials to areas not accessible by vehicles.

“The JTF-Southern Border’s operations and partnership with U.S. Border Patrol are laser-focused on achieving all-domain control of our border,” said Brig. Gen. Jeremy Winters, JTF-SB Deputy Commander for Operations. “Activities like reinforcing the border barriers and placing obstacles in areas without a border wall demonstrate our tireless commitment to this mission and support for federal agency partners.”

Officials say the concertina wire will span hundreds of thousands along what they are calling critical areas along the border.
