A Spanish woman was arrested at Disney World after being accused of assaulting a teenager during a parade at the theme park. The detainee was identified as Martha Lucía Zapata-Echeverri, 51, originally from Colombia and currently a Spanish citizen.
According to a report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred last Sunday afternoon on Main Street USA, in front of Cinderella Castle, during one of the traditional parades for which the family-friendly resort is well-known.
According to the victim, a 17-year-old girl, Zapata-Echeverri, her attacker, physically confronted her in an attempt to gain space in the crowd and get a better view of the spectacle, which led to a heated confrontation amid the crowd waiting for the parade.
The teenager told police that, after allowing one of her companions to stand in front of her, the tourist grabbed her arm and pulled her forcefully, causing an injury and a bruise on her arm. The minor claimed the attack was unexpected and unjustified.
Zapata-Echeverri denied any violence and maintained that she was only trying to join her daughter when she was allegedly pushed by the teenager, who claimed the spot was already occupied.
After taking statements from both parties and gathering evidence, officers arrested the woman. She was taken to the Orange County Jail and formally charged with child abuse in one of the most important parks in the United States.
